Abstract

This research paper critically examines religious responses to Alfred C. Kinsey’s seminal study, “Sexual Behavior in the Human Female”, within the framework of morality and ethics. Through an interdisciplinary lens encompassing sociology, religious studies and gender studies, the study delves into diverse religious traditions’ reactions to Kinsey’s findings, shedding light on the intricate interplay between empirical insights into female sexuality and entrenched religious beliefs. The analysis investigates key figures and scholars from Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism, exploring how their perspectives shape the reception and interpretation of Kinsey’s work, particularly in relation to established moral and ethical norms. By exploring the tensions, harmonies and evolving dialogues between scientific inquiry and religious teachings, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics that emerge when sexual behavior intersects with matters of faith and morality.
