Abstract

The Yarsani community in Iran has been subjected to suppression due to contradictions between their beliefs and the mainstream Shia-Twelver theology. Yarsanism is a syncretic religious movement that incorporates elements of pre-Islamic beliefs, Sufism, and Shia Islam, and it differs significantly from mainstream Shia-Twelver theology. This has led to discrimination against the Yarsani community, with their practices and beliefs often considered heretical. However, Yarsanis have expressed a willingness to live peacefully in Iran despite these differences. This paper aims to explore the historical context of Yarsanism and the contradictions with Shia-Twelver theology, as well as the impact of this on the Yarsani community in Iran.
